Pros

The guest you meet are so excited to stay at The Palace especially of the history the hotel brings to NYC.

Cons

We are going through some renovations and our guests are not accustomed to all the scaffolding but we are hoping the end product will make them want to come back even more often.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are great on listen to the employees issues and concerns. Great job on the new cafeteria!

    Pros

    A legendary property with a lot of history, well recognized property. Decent benefits and pay.

    Cons

    Unfortunately the hotel is in constant change since losing their prestigious 5 star, 5 diamond awards over 10 years ago. Since then the hotel has struggled to even maintain a 4 star / diamond standard. While a lot of the core line staff remains from the hotels prestigious days, the management is in constant rotation and it seems as though all this change has served no purpose except to defeat the moral of the line staff. In the past decade the property has gone through over 5 General Managers and accompanying Executive Committee and Leadership teams each with their own ideas on how to reclaim the 5 star / diamond award, non of which seem to hit the right mark, defeating moral and culture along the way. The final blow is that any chance of reclaiming a 5 star diamond award is basically shattered as the hotel was recently sold (July 2011) to a private equity firm that has not interest in reclaiming the New York Palaces former glory and is basically looking to turn a profit , a classic "strip and flip"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be fully conscious that a large percentage of the line staff are great people who were the same line staff in place when the hotel could easily claim 5 star / diamond status. The staff as a whole is not the problem, training is not a problem, it is moral. Yes there are bad union apple in the batch but most are proud of the property and prestige. They are too smart and see right though BS. Work on being sincere, not phony, and you will go a long way to re-establishing moral and pride in the property, the 5 star diamond will follow...
