New York Times – “I like my job but I'm not sure where it's going.

Pros

I feel that my direct managers recognize my abilities and have rewarded me to the extent of their power. I've gotten great feedback, and recognition of my contribution and value to the company, which is good to hear even if it can't be completely rewarded with compensation. My managers are extremely understanding when someone needs to take time off.

Cons

The newspaper business is a failing business, and I don't believe that my increases have been or will be as great as maybe others have been in the past, when business was better. Although, I am confident that my job is secure, in these times you can never be completely comfortable.

Advice to Senior Management

I don't know what the rules are surrounding different forms of compensation, but if it is possible to increase the discount in the employee stock purchase plan that is one way to increase compensation without a direct cash expense.
