I have been working at New York Times full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Prestige. Beautiful office. Excellent cafeteria. At parties I'm the "New York Times guy".

Cons

Departments do not speak to each other. Getting things done is a slow slow process. Compensation and benefits and perks on the low end of industry.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retain talent. This is a great place to learn, but there is a non-stop brain drain of people leaving for more money/benefits elsewhere.

I worked at New York Times full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There's no better platform or calling card fo a journalist than the New York Times. There's an enormous amount of pride walking into an office every day with the paper's name on the door.

    Cons

It's difficult to support a family on the pay and the pace.

I have been working at New York Times full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The Times definitely treats their employees pretty well. Good health benefits, compensation, etc. My only complaint is that there is a good bit of bureaucracy to deal with which gets tiresome. From a software engineering perspective, teams are small and projects are interesting. Choice of tools and methodologies is very wide and developers have a wide berth.

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy. Many "directors" with their hands in the pot. Could be more agile and current in todays market, but making tremendous strides.
