Pros

Straightforward, aggressive business philosophy Salaries very competitive Some very good and capable people in middle management

Cons

Very poor communications - information is power and many don't want to share. You're on your own - sink or swim - little to no mentoring and goals are not clear. They have something called 360 Degree Review, which is no more than a method for others in the company to criticize you and do so anonymously. What a morale killer!

    Pros

Good pay for the area, but in a more competetive market, it is not a good place to work.

    Cons

Benifits slashed, no raises in 3 years, bullying management that hire incompetents.

    Advice to Management

This WAS a great gcomapny when it was Mead. Nothing but down hill since.

    Pros

NewPage paper mills are first class. The distribution network is customer focused and responsive. Headquarter facilities, benefit package and community involvement paint a very positive image for NewPage in the Dayton area.

    Cons

Senior management appears to struggle with the realities of people issues. Denying people issues rather than addressing them will eventually lead to a "what happened?" day. The commodity paper market is shrinking and many doubt that it will ever return.

    Advice to Management

Senior management should avoid the trap of listening to the loudest voice and direct their attention to meaningful results. They sometimes come from those that quietly give security to the business through consistent, accurate work.
