I found Newmont to be old school and at times extremely disfunctional.

Pros

There are some really smart, good people at Newmont. You get to do some cool potential travel and the pay is about 30% above market..

Cons

Very slow, old school, old boy culture. Hard to make decisions and get work done. Salary and benefits are set up as "golden handcuffs" -- stock options vest over three years, kind of forcing you to stick around despite the disfunction. While the culture, mission, and values look great on paper, this can be a very low-trust environment, leading to churn, constantly revisiting decisions, and other frustrations.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Newmont seriously needs to do a significant culture transformation. Merely adjusting the strategy and hoping that the next level of management will fall into line isn't working.

    Pros

    Great benefits and pay, better then most other jobs in the area. Variety of training available. Good overall experience.

    Cons

    There tends to be a break down in communication when issues arise. Certain departments run over others. Long hours

    Pros

    Really open to try new technology, people is really engaged with the company,

    Cons

    they keep losing good people, Newmont doesnt even care to do an exit interview. Growth is really slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop wasting money is stupid bikes and use it to attract good people (not Hell's angels members) and do everything you can to retain your talent, mining companies are looking for skilled people.
