    Pros

    Newsday of old was a great place for interesting journalism. There were talented people working there and a commitment to hiring people of diverse backgrounds. Employees were encouraged to try new ideas and spread their wings.

    Cons

    Life-work balance suffered
    Innovation eventually stifled
    Economy eroded stability of newspaper, forcing layoffs
    Change of ownership threatened quality of journalism

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Let the journalists do what they do best and pay them for it.
    Stop trying to cut corners.
    Listen to employees. They are just as invested in the company as the managers are.
