Advice to ManagementAdvice

Produce some catchy advertisements in North America like Apple does. Apple manages to create hype out of nothing and now they are enjoying the benefits of a culture following.

Keep ads simple, highlight the important things.

Excellent to progress and learn career-wise (up until about 1 year ago). Flexible. Very bad HR overall though.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Up until about a year ago it was a very good company to progress career wise and offered the possibility to move into different areas of work (logistics, sales) and so learn more about the complete picture of phone manufacturing.
    Flexible hours.

    Cons

Company is in transition and the change seems to be too slow and lack clear direction.
Still too much work is done in silos with conflict of interest between departments.
Nokia HR Spain (at least) shows no respect towards employees being laid off and it has a negative effect on current employees' motivation. Really makes you question if the Nokia values still exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Accelarate the transition before it is too late.
Really revise how HR treats employees to avoid loosing so many good people to the competition.

I worked at Nokia full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

When Nokia went well, working there was really exciting. You could do things, you were listened to and the ratio "despicable person"/employee was very low. Nowadays things have gone so bad that there is a serious opportunity to be part of a great turnaround ... provided you can make it happen. The trouble is that the "despicable person"/employee ratio as rocketed following the redundancies and it has not come down back to normal levels yet.

    Cons

Still too many senior managers who mistake illusion for vision and think it makes them look smart. Some of them have paid the price for it, but not all of them. I also think that the focus of maps & navigation is misplaced, not to mention the fact that the offering does not measure up to the main competitor in fundamental areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Carry on chasing the bullshitters out of the company, take an honest look at your products and improve them accordingly
