I have been working at Nokia full-time for more than a year

Pros

The company has a wide pool of talented individuals.
Good benefits and competitive pay.
Work-life balance.

Cons

Decision making is painfully slow and frustrating. Senior management is out-of-touch with the reality on the ground. Frequent layoffs. In last round of layoffs - several units in US were reduced to half their size - however number of management layers remained the same. Too few engineers, too many managers. Many projects end up with more powerpoint slides than lines of code.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn from your competition and improve speed of execution. Focus on improving the company's culture. Reduce management layers. Make more decisions like "yes" and "no" and avoid decisions like "maybe" and "next week".

    I worked at Nokia full-time

    Pros

Best company whose heart and vision were in the right direction. Flexible hours, open to ideas and genuinely concerned about customers.

    Cons

Being on the West Coast of the US meant many days of 5:00 am calls to Finland. A mobile giant that doesn't understand the US market and refuses to let the US unit operate how it needs to. Too many levels of management. Slow to move on good ideas. Poor execution. New US management team has many gifted leaders but the marketing department is careless and out of touch with the company's brand situation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Financially, it is probably too late to remain in the mobile phone business. If you insist though, get out of Finland. The union is killing you and you are out of touch with consumers. The US management team needs to be in Silicon Valley. Not in name only but physically working out of the office. It would have helped morale too.
