I worked at Nokia full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Good people
Lots of talent
Not a backstabbing environment

Cons

- Too many reorgs
- Sometimes have folks of questionable talent or who lack motivation and work ethic in Sr. roles
Waste an awful lot of money on European managers brought stateside -- the comp and benefits are ridiculous for some of these people...and the company is not one with a lot of extra cash right now
- Too slow in execution
- Opportunities for advancement are limited right now
- Lots of layoffs due to market position

I have been working at Nokia full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Particularly nice benefit program. Impressive vacation time potential for those who have put in the years. Great people who desperately desire to see this company return as the market leader. Come on NOK stock!

    Cons

Room for advancement and individual innovation. However, once you hit a particular career level, it becomes necessary to either manage a group or move to Finland. Concerned that not everything is being done to reach the America's market, but I know it can't happen in one year or even a few years.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The salary and benefits are equal to local market trends and in some cases better than local market trends.

    Cons

I have worked more and lived less over the last several years. While this was mostly driven by the need and desire to increase the US Market; it soon became the need to contribute to Nokia's survivability in the European market. The strategical decisions made by Leadership have been driven by the European Market and Nokia European culture. This has negatively impacted Nokia for years due to the paradigm shift in smart phone technology coming out of the US mostly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Nokia Way is something that should be examined and completely rebuilt. The CIO refers to the Nokia Way as the Right Way, which has been attached to "with the Right People" on occasion. If you consider their Global presence, Market Trends, and current smart phone retail pricing; you might say the Nokia Way is perhaps an unfortunate wrong turn. Was it a wrong turn that lead down a very narrow trail with no outlet or recourse? Will it lead to the ultimate abyss? The outcome is just on the horizon. The smart phone technology has been bubbling out of Silicon Valley for many years now. While Nokia has an office located in this technology hub, the Leadership stands firm with their strategy which has dropped all their hopes and dreams into one platform. This platform was based on a single partnership that now appears to be a very one sided relationship. This continues to be the Nokia Way....the Right Way... with the Right People.
