I worked at Nokia full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good market position as #2 supplier in telecom infrastructure equipment.

Cons

This is a joint venture company between the cellular infrastructure divisions from Nokia and Siemens. They are still trying to find their way in melding the 2 companies together. They need to get better processes in place and improve quality.

Advice to Management

Embrace your newly acquired Motorola Solutions employes. (NSN acquired MSI infrastructure division in 2011)

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nokia is a great company to work for as a technical engineer as there is a high level of technical competence across all areas of the company. The hours are flexible as needed and my colleagues are generally fantastic. The pay is generally average to above average, but other benefits such as 401k match and paid time off are exceptional. Even in the unfortunate situation where the company needs to lay people off, they are treated fairly, and the company makes the transition as painless as possible for the departing employee.

    Cons

When the company is not doing well it is reflected by doing layoffs. When the company is doing well, they tend to hire like crazy. This results in a viscous repetitive cycle of too aggressive hiring followed by layoffs followed by more hiring followed by more layoffs. This is not helpful for overall employee morale.

  2. It has been an exciting ride for the last few years; to see how this company is turning in the right direction is great

    Pros

global player, you have the chance to gain experience abroad. Very respectful treatment of individuals

    Cons

Benefits took a dive lately, constant organization changes keep you on your toes, but are distracting, loss of focus

    Advice to Management

Focus on the transformation and don't change the organization every 6 month, the we could fix our own issues a bit quicker.
