I have been working at Nokia

    Pros

Nokia is all about mobility - to me it translates to life balance, using mobile communication to improve our communications and ability to connect in our professional lives as well as with our loved ones. Nokia's roots come from Finland and touch nature and environmental values and there is a genuine feeling inside the company to give (to the consumers and society). It is one unique workplace to be at.

    Cons

Nokia is a very large public company with 100k plus employees with all the processes and rules and bureaucracy you dont have in a small company, also networking with the Finnish people requires understanding of the European/Scandinavian culture and it's goods and bads

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nokia should spend much more in marketing in North America and increase awareness of ecological use of mobile devices and internet connectivity of Nokia products, Nokia is currently losing market share also due to too high prices of their products (euro is too strong?) which would need to translate into better deals for American consumers at some point

Current Employee - Marketing Manager in White Plains, NY

I have been working at Nokia

    Pros

Opportunity to travel the world and work with dynamic individuals at the forefront of technology. A truly mobile work environment with very flexible work schedules - pretty much come and go whenever as long as you get your work done. If you have a good business idea, and a good plan to go with it, chances are you'll be able to make it happen (as long as you can come up with the budget).

    Cons

Too many e-mails, meetings, and conference calls. Having to commute from Manhattan to White Plains. Lack of a sense of community in the White Plains office (but that is slowly changing for the better). Matrixed organization does not give much administrative support. You see directors photocopying and mailing their own packages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Establish internal global rotation programs to give employees outside of Finland the ability to experience working in other cities for short-term assignments. (There are currently opportunities to do so internally, however, it is on a case-by-case basis only).
