  1. Typical public corporation, with reasonable compensation but with politics in abundance.

I have been working at Nokia

    Pros

Good package (about industry average), bonus, insurance, gym membership, relatively new cellphone, laptop.
    Reasonable office space and location
    Flexible schedule

    Cons

Some places have a better package.
    Reorgs happen too often
Not many opportunities for prof development and career growth.
Too many management layers, hence - political struggle on every level.
Inefficiency induces extra hours and stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be ready with "plan B". Eventually, cost saving efforts will get to your level/position as well, as the company will follow the same downward spiral as other hi-tech "greats" before it: Philips, Nortel, Ericsson...

    I worked at Nokia

    Pros

Good technology and great offices. Very little free time as too many managers are hired compared to too few technical people to do actual work.

    Cons

Immature, nepotistic management. Promotion based on who you know not how good you are at what you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sack yourselves, you're frankly useless. Let the techies get on with what they're good at and stop interfering.
