I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (less than a year)

Pros

The customers can be fun to shop with.
You have access to all the latest fashion trends on a daily basis.
If you like shopping you will like Nordstrom

Cons

Favortism
*"schedule is based on merit" -Direct quote from HR but noone can seem to define what that means.
*"turnover % is high because we constantly need new people to light a fire under the tenured employees "behinds" to show them that they have competition..." That was pretty much a direct quote.
*The customer service all star award is an award that is given to who the managers LIKE the most...yes, that's true, there are no SPECIFIC #'s to attain etc...it is TRULY a popularity contest.
*The employee who is a top performer can do no wrong...if their behavior is bad towards others noone cares as long as they are performing.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Im not even going to bother giving any advice because as you will see, former and current employees have been giving advice for years...its 2012 and I would give the exact same advice that was given by others in 2010...so sad.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Discount on awesome selection of clothing, if you move to a new area you will always have a job with Nordstrom.

    Cons

Straight commission only, being new is difficult as others will take advantage, employees are very sharky with sales and the environment is extremely toxic. On my first day my manager complained to me about the staff and other managers, turnover is high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps focus on employee satisfaction as well, maybe give a base salary for new employees so the transition into straight salary is easier.
