Good company. Hard to advance if you're not liked

Pros

A very good company with great pay and benefits if you have them.

Cons

Very political. You're not advancing unless someone likes you. It's not about how well you do your job.

    Pros

I have worked in several other Nordstrom's and this is by far the best looking store along with merchandise selection as well.
you can also develop some great long lasting relationships there because you spend so much time at work. And you can learn a great deal depenging on who your store manager, manager, or regional is. If you have a bad one it could be the end of your career

    Cons

This Nashville location has too many young, inexperienced, and unproffesional managers. And the same for the South Regionals...blind leading the blind.
Team not being taught the culture of the company. Management and Store managers do not lead by example.
pay is not competitive and employees and departments should not take the loss with fraudulant/worn returns
There are events every 3 weeks that you are expected to book appointments for. You will be forced to call your customers every month.

    Advice to Management

    For the Nashville location....
There is a supposed "open door" policy, but you certainly have to be careful what you say to management. It may come back to bite you!
    Be present
    Have Structure
    Be consistent
    Be ethical
    Get to know your team
Be appropriate...meaning don't say inappropriate things

As far as the company goes overall it is a great place to work IF your ok with working a lot of hours for litte pay. The relocation has changed a lot too, so yes you have the opportunity to go and work at different stores through out the U.S. the down side is that you will probably endup paying out of pocket to do so.
    But
INCREASE SALARIES, BE PICKY WITH WHO YOU PROMOTE, LONGER TRAINING FOR NEW HIRES, DO ACTUAL TRAINING FOR MANAGERS, INCREASE COMMISSION

    Pros

Great training... if nothing else you will leave the place with great customer service skills, friendly co-workers, not a bad place to work for a recent college grad

    Cons

20-33% discount, they used to promote from within but now hire "personal stylists" off the street...lots of hours not great pay, hypocrites...expect employees to treat customers like gold, but treat their employees like crap...anniversary sale is becoming a joke due to cheap merchandise, Sales floors are being overcrowded with employees which hurts every sales persons pay check checkbut looks

    Advice to Management

adjust goals, hire quality people like you used to, give your managers a raise, employees that have been there for over 10 years shouldnt still be getting paid 10.85/hr at a non sell rate...speaking of which an employee that gets to work at 8 shouldnt stop getting paid at 9:20 whenwgeb===
