  1.

Happy to have the opportunity, but retail is not for everyone.

Former Employee - Sales Associate in Walnut, CA

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Nordstrom provides a great structure for career growth and also allows for relocation. The customer service experience is valuable for many settings. It is possible to work either part or full time.

    Cons

Long hours. Working nights, weekend and holidays. Little flexibility with schedule when first starting. Company is most concerned with profit and in return compromises fashion and quality. Lacks authentic team work and often times harbors a negative competitive environment to make the most sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote sales teams working together so that the dynamic within a department is pleasant and fun.

  2.

Holds up to their great customer service, but disillusioned by career path

Former Employee - Retail Management Intern in Boston, MA

I worked at Nordstrom as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great training in the retail industry and customer service, but manager and co-workers are a bit hit or miss.

    Cons

Disillusionment on the glamorous and fun side of retail. Pushes too hard for the ideal situation when that never really happens

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more realistic and offer better opportunities for growth and development
