I worked at Nordstrom full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Commission based sales allow for the employee to dictate his/her own paycheck. Nordstrom will only promote from within; There is much room for growth with this company. Nordstrom has a positive work culture. They offer great benefits, paid time off accruals and discounts on clothes.

Cons

Most employees must work weekend days/holidays/nights etc. During sales and busy seasons, employees generally work overtime. The job can be very physically tiring. Enrollment for benefits is only every three months.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

My reason for leaving the company was due to over-staffing by management.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They are flexible with time away from the store. They coach and educate rather than discipline. They allow you to build your own business under their roof. They encourage you to cultivate relationships with your customers.

    Cons

Some times people get let go for stupid things. Some one was let go for a customer complaint, another for something they posted on facebook. it creates an insecure environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My particular location the manager is very impersonal. he has a goup of friends who he will talk to and ignores the rest. it would be nice to work for someone who is open and friendly. the preach recognition and he doesn't give it out atleast not below the managerial level.
