I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (more than a year)

Pros

Opportunity for great pay, make your own paycheck, fun, fast paced environment

Cons

Management is a bit iffy on scheduling, but I think that's just my manager, not managers at Nordstrom as a whole. I now only work weekends after having worked full time for the past year, and my manager still schedules me a random Thursday or Monday. Otherwise I absolutely love it here!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

My manager and assistant manager are absolutely awesome. Recognize our dept for hard work, employee of the month. No complaints other than scheduling.

If you love a commissioned environment with lots of competition, this place is perfect for you...

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Depending on location, the commission can be substantial, especially during big sales. Lots of great reporting tools that are utilized so that you can properly assess your performance. Daily sales reports promote competition within individual departments and store wide. Depending on which department you work in, the apparel companies give out free clothes to the sales people in the appropriate department. I worked in Men's Shoes, and Ecco gave $5 for every pair that you sold for the entire month. Another company gave away a free pair of $325 shoes if you sold a certain number. The free stuff goes on and on.

All around a great company... good people.

    Cons

Improper staffing can result in too many sales people working at one time, therefore greatly reducing your commissions.

Some weeks are very slow, and your commission will show for it.
