I worked at Nordstrom full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

General high end products, nice place to work aesthetically, mostly great customers

    Cons

Young, inexperienced management with "power" complexes, commission enviroment for managers as well creates lack of support as a sales person. Managers are too motivated to sell to insure that the department is running well and sales people can do their jobs as they need to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop creating "Elitist" attitude amongst managers. Managers are told they are better than their employees as opposed to being taught to build a supportive, cohesive team. Stop promoting people who are great sellers only - this does not translate to a good manager - these people need to have "big picture" mentality and most of them do not. Many are so young - they are ill prepared to manage anyone.
