I worked at Nordstrom full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Great company. Lots of opportunity to move around if you have a great manager. They genuinely care about their employees and empower you to make a lot of decisions. They also are closed on major holidays unlike some other retailers.

Cons

If you have a bad department manager you're screwed out of a lot of opportunities. Worked long hours and lots of weekends. Commission sales are great except Nordstrom's flexible return policy can hurt you sometimes.

I worked at Nordstrom as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great culture, great employee treatment from day one as an intern, great leadership training,

    Cons

Worked over 60 hours most weeks, not much family/work balance,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If a customer has a complaint and brings it to an employee (even an intern), it should be sought after and taken care of so that customers are treated the way that the Nordstrom family expects every time. It felt sometimes as if it was swept under the rug and certain departments were able to treat customers poorly time and time again.
