I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great culture, great people, good work/life balance, genuine company that is very large but still strives to feel like a family run business. Nordstrom deserves its ranking as a great place to work.

Cons

Nordstrom is, as it should be, solely focused on multi-channel selling. This reality often hinders the company's competitiveness in corporate areas, particularly those functions that Nordstrom does in-house. It's important to keep in mind this is retail, and their competitive landscape, in regard to employment, is measured against other retailers.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Saying that you work at Nordstrom can be gratifying to someone that doesn't know the in's and outs. Getting to see the new trends for the season, and relatively okay training.

    Cons

Unless you sell a ton, you won't get promoted.. The HR department typically doesn't care about issues with your managers. They say they will handle it, however nothing ever actually gets done. Beware of backstabbing and gossip, there is a ton of that. If you can't sell, don't apply. Also look out for new managers, usually they are all on power trips trying to prove themselves. And like I said, if you can't sell don't apply because you will be miserable. They make is seem like its all about the customer, and it's not. At the end of the day it is about money, and making the day. OH, and rewards, rewards, rewards :/

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into your cosmetics department at the Cherry Hill Store. Have honest reviews ALONE with the people behind the counter. The management style here is never uplifting, highly demanding and makes you feel like you could lose your job any day. You are constantly in fear of never being good enough! And the current assistant managers are on power trips, they like to rub your nose in mistakes and actively seek out anything negative to bring to your attention.

I think this company would benefit from acknowledging customer relations, and having repeat customers. Rather than emotionally tearing you apart because your numbers are never good enough.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Generally friendly co-workers, that's pretty much it.

    Cons

Very dry and uncomfortable work environment; Generally every manager working at that company is very unprofessional, very ill-prepared. They have no problems back-dooring you in terms of when you will be working and for how long. They are also very uninformed. It's very "say one thing, do another", and that is an every-day occurrence.
Beyond that, this company has no problems keeping good workers on "seasonal status" to prevent them from being a full-time employee, as to deny them benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your facts straight, stop lying to the employees.
