I worked at Nordstrom full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Fast paced environment, motivated employees, opportunities for earning a greater paycheck if you work hard

Cons

Lack of a good onboarding process (fault of manager, not company as a whole), no baseline pay, so you only earn as much as you sell, and if business is slow, it means you aren't making much per hour, and your time in the stock room and reshelving and cleaning dressing rooms isn't compensated. Also, oftentimes fulltime sales women have the big spender clients, and the pickings are pretty slim for younger, more temporary workers. It's very competitive and takes a lot of smooth maneuvering to get enough customers while not looking like you are trying to walk them through a sale.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the onboarding process is thorough for all employees and truly introduces them to the lay of the business and how to make a sale.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Employee Discounts
    -Flexible Schedules
    -Positive for fashion fanatics
-Working for a company that wants employees to greet and deal with customers sincerely

    Cons

-High pace environment for retail pay (depends on your position)
-To Maintain medical benefits must maintain so many hours on schedule per pay period or loose benefits. Can be frustrating to have to double check all the time. Though a worker has full time hours generally speaking, there may be a reduction due to slow down in orders.
-For this position, some workers may be unhappy that product is removed from their department for orders. Management tried to explain but some workers may remain resistant.
-This is fashion. Become less strict on which clothes can be worn in work hrs. (as long as it's from Nordstrom and covers body appropriately).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quality department managers are important. Taking new perspective to an old approach is good.
