The only constant is change, and that's not necessarily a good thing.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Totally commission based so there's no salary cap. You meet some really great people. Good to have on a resume. Schedule isn't made on seniority but rather sales. Technology is current (ipads and ipods as registers).

    Cons

Discount is mediocre. Some employees are sharks and veteran employees are 'stuck in their old ways'. Dept managers have little say in what happens other than coaching employees. Little help from above. Technology doesn't always work. Paid bi-monthly and some paychecks are $400. Have to be able to move around the country to be promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give Department managers more freedom, bring back the family atmosphere and get rid of the corporate vibe coming in. Bring back the old Nordstrom (Looking at you Nord Brothers)

Used to be focused on Customer Service as the top priority, now the focus is on $$$

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good people (coworkers). Stable company

    Cons

Not a lot work life balance, life revolves around events and sales, unrealistic goals, not enough training for new hires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to your roots. There is a reason we all believed in this company when we started, and those values and ideals are slipping away more and more as the days pass
