I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Being able to provide outstanding service to customers and making them feel good about their experience at Nordstrom.

    Cons

Returns come out of your paycheck. That is the worst part. You could work with someone for hours, then if they return merchandise, you have to pay back all the commission you earned, even up to a YEAR later. Even if they exchange it, the salesperson who does the exchange will get the commission and you have to pay yours back, even if they exchange it for something you already showed the customer. If you are out for vacation or because you are sick, you end up owing the company money when you come back because of all the returns that happened while you were gone. As you can imagine, because of the generous return policy, returns are high.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is good, plenty of positions to choose from and lots of opportunity to move up in the company. Depending on the department you work in there are other incentives aside from commission (ie. gratis) and opportunities to work with vendors which opens up a new pathway to move forward.

    Cons

Particularly in cosmetics: Schedule is never consistent, way too many events to prepare for which really limits time off, so don't expect to get many weekends. Politics, politics, politics. It is in your best interest to make friends and brown nose a bit.
