I worked at Nordstrom

Pros

opportunity to take on additional responsibilities
ability and encouragement to take control of your own success- computer program allows you to maintain and grow relationships with customers

Cons

sales associates in most departments (as far as i know) rely strictly on commission, so you really have to stay on top of your game at all times because just like in any retail store, there are slow days and you have to find a way to sell if you want to make money and stay in managements good graces.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nordstrom thoroughly prepares you to work there. training typically consists of 3 days in which a representative familiarizes you with the corporate history and culture, reviews general employee protocol and guidelines, and teaches you how to use the computers

Be prepared to be micro managed, and talked down to by the Department Manager

I have been working at Nordstrom

    Pros

    - Nice clean enviorment, assocaites are generally nice, store is clean....You can make good money

    Cons

EVERYBODY RETURNS Everything. My department manager has driven out everyone from over achievers to Nordstrom vetrans. If you work in TBD assume that means you cant dress and you cant sell. THe vendor even gives you freebies (which the tax is conveniently taken from your paycheck) - these freebies are so everyone can look like clones and PROVE they too can embrace fashion. IF you are offered at POSITION in this DEPARTMENT RUN or be SEASONAL.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of the managers really do care and make the place fun and rewarding to work. If you are offered a job in TBD make sure to have a back up plan its impossible to make your goal when everything is $20.00. **talking down to your employees or giving them little talks that arent coaching arent really afffective long term...maby its the manager that is a BAD FIT for the department.
