Current Employee – been working at Norfolk Southern full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great pay and benefits, once you are finished training
Lots of opportunities to advance due to retirements
Cons – -Management is inconsistent in their expectations
-You will never EVER hear you have done a good job, but you will catch hell any time you make a mistake
-Punishments for mistakes are inconsistent, what gets one person fired, will get another a slap on the wrist
- Training pay is only $120/day, barely enough to live on
- EVERYTHING is based on seniority, regardless of ability to perform your job
- it is a 24/7 operation, you will work holidays/weekends/nights
- There is a very old school mentality, there is very little to no respect for younger employees
Advice to Senior Management – Understand that the younger employees are the future of your company, and if you don't hold on to them, and respect their opinions, you will lose them.
