I have been working at Norfolk Southern as a contractor

    Pros

Have strong technical teams, good projects.

    Cons

Slack working environment with limited resource and slow space. Some people work hard but not trusted, but most have easy time if you know how to talk.

Current Employee - Train Dispatcher in Greenville, SC

I have been working at Norfolk Southern full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great pay and benefits, once you are finished training
Lots of opportunities to advance due to retirements

    Cons

-Management is inconsistent in their expectations
-You will never EVER hear you have done a good job, but you will catch hell any time you make a mistake
-Punishments for mistakes are inconsistent, what gets one person fired, will get another a slap on the wrist
    - Training pay is only $120/day, barely enough to live on
    - EVERYTHING is based on seniority, regardless of ability to perform your job
    - it is a 24/7 operation, you will work holidays/weekends/nights
    - There is a very old school mentality, there is very little to no respect for younger employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that the younger employees are the future of your company, and if you don't hold on to them, and respect their opinions, you will lose them.
