I worked at Nortel Networks full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Nortel fit my personality: it was never cutthroat. It was an easy-going place.
They focused on support. It was not just about the sales cycle, about getting product to customers and then abandoning them.
Developed and acquired really innovative technology in lots of areas (fiberoptic transmission, VoIP switching, VoIP call centres, LAN/WAN, telephony applications).

    Cons

Wasn't cut-throat enough to survive from a sales, or cutting dead wood, point of view. The easy-going nature, and the legacy of coming from a bureaucratic research company, meant we never had the killer startup instinct.
Portfolio was too broad. There were too many underperforming divisions that were kept around for far too long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too late now: Nortel was liquidated a couple of years ago.
