I have been working at North American Lighting full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

The pay and benefits are great! The people are generally nice. If you are just getting started in you career it is a valuable experience in how not to manage a company.

Cons

Management is terrible at all levels but mostly from the top. There is a lot of favoritism. The culture is one of termination. Unlike other companies, if you make a mistake at NAL you will most likely be terminated. Termination is the solution to all of their problems. Long hours; it's not really conducive to a family life. The corporate management doesn't seem to know what it is doing.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people like human beings, not like disposable items. Discontinue favoritism.

    Pros

People were great in Paris. Relatively low stress level, despite being a 24x7 manufacturing company.

    Cons

culture was somewhat dysfunctional. Everyone is scared of the CEO and he has to approve almost everything so people aren't given a lot of freedom to run.

Other facilities had pretty low morale and a lot of problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire good people, trust them, and stay out of their way. Let them do their jobs.

    Pros

NAL is a good place to learn the ropes of both the automotive and lighting industries. There are many people at the company who are willing to bend over backwards to help others learn and grow.

    Cons

There seems to be a lack of people in the plants who care about doing an adequite job, subsequently letting any shoddy workmanship pass. This has led to poor manufacturing at many of the plants has caused the company to fall behind its competitors; both in terms of quality of parts and what designs are deemed possible. Which has driven away customers.
