as long as you don't need to interact with administration, you will be fine.

I have been working at North Shore LIJ Health System

Pros

Professional nursing staff are superb, benefits are generous, parking has gotten better over the years. Long-term personnel provide support for colleagues

Cons

Administration has no idea what the working conditions for ambulatory offices are like - no support from administration, expect you to do more and more with less and less. They spend more time at meetings than listening to the staff. They implement expensive programs that are supposed to encourage teamwork, but do not realize that short staffing is a strain to maintaining a team environment.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to listen to employees and support the staff

I have been working at North Shore LIJ Health System full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Close to home, good pay without having to travel to Manhattan. Managers let you work from home occasionally, or sneak out early to family stuff.

    Cons

Top heavy upper management, that don't listen to technical staffs recommendations. Upper management does not pay for tools to monitor/manage environment, or training. They do pay for test taking, but any expenses are paid slowly. Also health insurance is expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people you hired for their technical expertise, pay for tools, and training.

I have been working at North Shore LIJ Health System full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pretty secure. Good benefits and time off. Beats working in the city, if you live on Long Island. It's the largest employer on the Island, and you could certainly do far worse. The new health insurance plan they're launching will likely benefit us. Uh...free coffee?

    Cons

Salaries are generally frozen. The benefits and rewards for higher-level folks far exceeds your own. But you probably guessed that. Not a "hip" place, if you're looking for that. Imagine working on Long Island. There you go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    How about more raises?
