Pros

Vast amount of long-term employees with great expertise and loyalty.

Cons

This company has competing goals, low morale and several quiet layoffs. In addition, due to public scrutiny over response to storm outages, the CEO was forced to resign.

Advice to Management

Clarify goals, make it clear how individual contributions help reach those goals and communicate much more.

    Pros

o Biggest utility in New England - looks good to have on resume o Have/Had smart people but most are leaving due to poor management after merger

    Cons

o Low salary compare to market o New management cold towards employees - again, this is after merger o Used to be very focus on internal training and education - after merger, it's all about cost cutting o Company has too many seniors where they no longer feel the need to work hard o Culture is too old, very closed minded to new ideas

    Advice to Management

o Cost cutting is important, but retaining talents is even more important. o Need to weed out all the dead-weight o Too many politics and lack of leadership

    Pros

Great benefits, great coworkers, great boss, great work assignments, good opportunities for job rotations, low turnover

    Cons

Large bureaucratic policy structure, difficult to feel ownership and ability to have an impact, slow to react, rigid rules, overhead, administrative tasks, very little crosstraining

    Advice to Management

Incorporate more job sharing/cross training at all levels to increase competencies and assure transitions, embrace more small scale power projects and distributed generation with creative financing and payback instead of taking on large, multiyear projects
