I worked at Northern Trust full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Big company, great reputation, easy to move around. Lots of different opportunities within firm as a whole. Not so much within NTHFS.

    Cons

Division acquired last year by NT. Companies have very different cultures and they are having a hard time merging two companies and there is lots of turnover.

    Advice to Management

Need to appease employees. Associates very displeased with transition. Losing a lot of talented workers

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Work/Life Balance Great People Good Benefits

    Cons

Systyms need to be upgraded/too slow Although there are good opportunities throughout the organization; it is difficult to transition to certain areas (ie. Client Facing Roles, Human Resources) Transferrable skills are not always considered

    Advice to Management

Rick Waddell is a great leader and walks the walk. He also holds his direct reports accountable for ensuring they stay close to their people and understand what is going on beyond the numbers. Stay focused on the internal talent and ensure there are opportunities for talented people to continue growing. Encourage all business units to consider transferable skills for opportunities beyond the "raw" experience within a certain area. Many transferrable skills can't be learned (ie. good management skills, communication skills, leadership, etc.) Business knowledge can be learned.
