As part of a large company, there are many projects and opportunities to find a niche. Once you demonstrate competence and consistency, management is quick to recognize your contributions and give you any support that you feel is necessary.

Cons

So much depends upon who your immediate supervisor and management are. Perhaps as critical is the project that you are on. We've had good people leave the company, not because of management or coworkers, but simply because the demands of our customer created an unworkable environment.

Advice to Senior Management

Please learn to push back certain demands from the customer. Educate the customer on how software development truly works and how last-minute demands cannot be met without incurring a lot of risk.
