Former Employee - Manager III, Manufacturing in Woodland Hills, CA

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

There are lots of challenges at the Woodland Hills site with lots of opportunity to shine.
The products they build are very strong and have a lot of heritage.

Cons

As with most manufacturing, work is leaving California, so be prepared to move or get laid off.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open and honest and communicate often to keep the work force from being stressed while working hard.

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong culture of integrity. Pockets of great management. Incredible products. Much pride in some project areas like the B2 bomber.

    Cons

The company is chaos. They have had so many realignments that org structure has become unknowable. Lots of politics. No work/life balance. Traditional old-school command and control. Leaders expected to be available 24/7. Training is almost non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to walk your talk when it comes to employee engagement.

Former Employee - Embedded Software Engineer in Rolling Meadows, IL

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Exposure to a wide range of defense electronics manufacturing disciplines including analog, digital, microwave, infrared, laser and software

    Cons

Over-managed to the point of micro-managing to the extreme.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to the culture that made Northrop Grumman such a top notch company to work for. The many cultural changes over the last 5 or 6 years have been detrimental to the company's success.
