Pros

Pay What was flexible work time in HR Lower and mid management are helpful and understanding Large company with diverse people (for engineer types that is) Unique work

Cons

Upper management not developing consensus, most actions and policies are all "pushed down" to us. "Challenge up, support down" does not really seem to be practiced in many areas re: project execution, flexible work, telework, general communication styles. Losing telework Engineer types

Advice to Management

Develop consensus with bonafide employee committees End nepotism of the good ol buddy kind Try that one show, Undercover boss out at Northrop. Boy, you might be surprised.

Great place to work, with typical big company issues

    Pros

NGST allows engineers to work on technical and very complex projects. It has the resources and experienced personnel to find answers to almost any problem. They will send you to school, send you to workshops/conferences, and bring in teachers for technical subjects. Good managers who treat you fair and let you take vacation. Because it is big there are a lot of other people your age and experience so you can make connections. Pay a bit more than average. Opportunity to make your own career path.

    Cons

Typical aerospace problems not really NGST specific. Slow pace work, risk aversion, dead wood, government funding cycles, and despite their best efforts promotion by seniority not merit

    Advice to Management

find some way to speed the process up

    Pros

Great benefits Great location More laid back than one would initially assume for a defense contractor Friendly people Shared office with a highly experienced coworker when starting out Great Pay

    Cons

Not much manager feedback on completed work Training was impersonal and short Sometimes traffic in the Baltimore area can be awful

    Advice to Management

Be more available and have more feedback for new employees on their first few projects to keep them interested and make them feel like they're doing a good job. Don't just leave them hanging and assuming their work is correct.
