I have been working at Northwestern Mutual

Pros

- Great work/life balance
- Health, dental, and vision benefits are all above average (though not spectacular)
- Work environment is as stressful as you want to make it

Cons

- Pay is low compared to other similiar positions in the market
- Sometimes has a large company mentality where decisions are made top-down without consulting the people at the bottom - although this has been slowly, slowly changing
- High performers are paid marginally higher than low performers. Because of this I have chosen not push myself into the higher performing category anymore

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The purse strings need to be opened. I've seen too many good, young workers leave this company when an additonal $5-10k would have kept them here. I'm young enough that I don't realistically think the pension is going to be there for me when I retire, and you bet that factors into my decision about whether or not to stay here long term. When the ecomony turns around I fear that we will have another group of people leave.

Leadership, Career Development, Networking with successful people in your city, opportunity to make a lot of money, and excellent coworkers.

    Cons

No base salary, difficult to establish your self, selling a product no one needs per say, long and odd hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer a base salary to allow new hires to build a funnel and lean the ropes. Also continue advertising aggressively.
