Pros

- Great work/life balance
- Health, dental, and vision benefits are all above average (though not spectacular)
- Work environment is as stressful as you want to make it

Cons

- Pay is low compared to other similiar positions in the market
- Sometimes has a large company mentality where decisions are made top-down without consulting the people at the bottom - although this has been slowly, slowly changing
- High performers are paid marginally higher than low performers. Because of this I have chosen not push myself into the higher performing category anymore

Advice to Management

The purse strings need to be opened. I've seen too many good, young workers leave this company when an additonal $5-10k would have kept them here. I'm young enough that I don't realistically think the pension is going to be there for me when I retire, and you bet that factors into my decision about whether or not to stay here long term. When the ecomony turns around I fear that we will have another group of people leave.

    Pros

Great people committed to doing the right thing for clients, extremely professional staff, great opportunitiy to intern in order to get hands-on experience and grow professionally, leadership is committed to helping each individual meet and exceed their personal and professional goals

    Cons

The hardest part of building any financial services practice is getting the momentum going in terms of building a client base, but Northwestern Mutual does a good job of making sure you know how do that in the interview process and provides great training to make sure you keep the momentum going
