I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern for more than a year

Pros

Great opportunity for self-motivated individuals who want to work closely with clients.

Cons

It is difficult to create a client base over the course of a summer, and people are often reluctant to trust their finances to an intern.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote more communication between interns and more experienced financial representatives.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    Good support from lower mgmt
    Strong company

    Cons

    Poor training
    Extremely dry material
Must be extremely self-starting and have a good base of financial connection
    Commission only
To succeed, it must consume your life
No pay, until you are licensed (which could take them forever to get you through the process)
Constant feeling that you are only there so your manager gets a bonus

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have your interns in home office read material better to ease people into the licensing process quicker. It is very unmotivating to be stuck in a process for months at a time, knowing that you can't make any money.
