I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time

Pros

Nice offices, free lunch, proper tools to get job done.

Cons

Over promote from withing, many senior managers promoted past level of competence. Promote from within policy leads to many individuals becoming managers of functional areas in which they have no practical experience.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Great opportunity for self-motivated individuals who want to work closely with clients.

    Cons

It is difficult to create a client base over the course of a summer, and people are often reluctant to trust their finances to an intern.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote more communication between interns and more experienced financial representatives.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Sink or swim mentality. Given exact same responsibilities as a full-time employee. No coffee runs, making copies etc. Provides amazing sales and account management experience from the get-go

    Cons

100% commission compensation structure. Employees tend to get burnt out

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is a very hard industry to start out in. Try to foster the growth of the interns more.
