I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time for less than a year

Pros

Limitless Potential, with a client first attitude. It truly is the #1 company if you do your research.

Cons

It takes determination, skill, and a never say die attitude. Some people just don't have all the right attributes to make it.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Emphasize the need for new reps to be smart with their money. I see guys go and blow all they have and then have a bad month and can't pay bills.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    - Intense training
    - They pay for you to get your insurance license, which you can use to work for any insurance company
    - They teach you all the skills you need to be successful
    - Great potential to earn a lot of money
    - Treated like a full-time rep; are able to truly see if this is the career for you

    Cons

    - I was mislead on the difficulty of prospecting/finding leads
    - Was told I would be given a list of potential clients, but was not & had to resort to cold calling
    - Long sales cycle
    - You're selling life insurance :-/

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more realistic view of how you will do during the internship. Training is a bit overwhelming (too much information too fast)

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The earning is theoretically limitless, and for many people who do not have a finance, business, accounting, etc. background, I could see this as being a great introduction to financial services. Also, in terms of insurance sales, the products are the best.

    Cons

In order to achieve a noteworthy income (i.e. >100K/year), however, you need to dedicate what seems to be at least 5 years to "building your practice". It is an insurance sales position with referral-based calling, but still just as awkward and difficult as cold calling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not all using the same verbiage for all aspects of the business--everyone who has been in the business at least a year sounds exactly the same and behaves similarly, too.
