I have been working at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (less than an year)

Pros

Get to work with senior executives and go on meetings with them which helps you learn the process. Good commission.

Cons

Sales is not for everyone. Cold calling is a lot of rejection. They also push you to contact friends and family which can be uncomfortable.

    Pros

Great co-workers, great training and support.

    Cons

Job is difficult. Full commission based sales can be unstable for new hires. Payoff doesn't come until a few years later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find ways to help new hires become financially stable to decrease employee turnover.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Great co-workers.
    Make your own schedule.
    Great company backing you.
    Amazing training and continuing education.
When you actually do your work, the compensation is great.

    Cons

It's so difficult to start working especially being right out of college. If you don't have a warm market, I'd consider being very prepared to cold call. If you hate it, don't even bother. I absolutely dispise cold calling and its so hard every day to wake up and make yourself do it. Northwestern mutual doesn't like to give ANYTHING away for free to its employees, so be weary of exactly what you're getting into before you sign any paper work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on helping your employees get contacts and meetings. Don't throw them into something without any help.

    No opinion of CEO
