I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The company is a good, solid company for insurance and investments, with good business values. Most people I work with are friendly.

    Cons

They hire very young for staff members to pay less, and people are always coming and going. The Assistants for independent advisors are usually there longer. The salary is usually on the low side for staff as they use mid-western salaries as a basis across the board for all their offices across the country. Independent advisors can pay their employees what they want. They've cut a lot extras they used to have in their office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your staff better. Give better raises and praise to keep your better employees.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time

    Pros

NM really cares about its clients and everyone that works for this company wants to have a positive impact on their lives. For the right person, the financial representative career is an incredible way to do well by doing good.

    Cons

If you are not someone who wants to be in sales or a client facing career, this is definitely not the right oppotunity for you. People who are successful here are extremely motivated, competitive and entrepreneurial.
