Pros

Northwestern Mutual is a good place for people who are good at sales related financial services. The compensation is good for the people who can sell.

Cons

If you are not a sales type of person, you will struggle to make money as it is based all on compensation.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management is terrific. The only matter is in the employees being good at sales. The management can help you figure out if it's right for you to be at Northwestern Mutual.

    Pros

    If you can make it here you will be just fine, however making it requires some degree of luck, persistence and tough work. 100% commission which may be good for some, but makes going to work hard when there is no consistent pay check.

    Cons

    You basically need to solicit life insurance to your family and friends. NO FUN! When you leave work you are constantly reminded to prospect for new clients and it doesn't make anytime relaxing. If you dont care about putting on a facade to try and impress people, and if you are okay calling on your friends and family without any shame then this is a good place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Good training, but I would suggest a bit more fair warning about the negatives about the job and how hard it is to succeed during the interview process.

    Pros

    -pay based on sales made
    -great company reputation
    -better package (signing bonus, reimbursement) compared to other similar companies

    Cons

    -have to be willing to be aggressive and put in long hours
    -glorified insurance sales
    -too many personal expenses
    -treat new employees like students, cutting incentives for being late/missing unecessary staff meetings

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - be honest with incoming candidates, don't set unrealistic expectations
