I have been working at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fun place with lots of interesting things to work on. Unless you are in the core sciences your most likely a contractor. Even then from what I understand beni's are not that good. But pay rates are good and generally flexible work environment. Regular fiesta's with great food, beer, and wine.

    Cons

Somewhat of a revolving door of contractors. No obvious path of development or advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want employs to be invested int the business then invest in actually employees not contractors.

I have been working at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great talent pool, innovative mindset, optimistic attitudes. The community of scientists is very intelligent - easy to find like minded colleagues. People are interested to discuss new ideas. If you find the right group of people who support your ideas, you can get a lot done.

    Cons

Some snobbish attitudes. have to be from the "Ivy" to get automatic credibility. Everybody else has to earn it. "visibility" is a must for being promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look beyond the surface when assessing leadership capabilities. Be serious about performance management. Promote women and minorities into leadership roles.
