Current Employee - Manager in Burlington, MA

I have been working at Nuance full-time for more than a year

Pros

Great technology. A wonderful place to work if you have a good manager. PTO and paid holidays.

Cons

If you are not a Mon-Fri schedule, you are out some of the paid holidays if they fall on your regular day off as you do not get another day off in its place. That is particularly true if you work Tues-Sat. Very hard to keep work/home life balance.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value those employees who are the bread and butter of the company. Truly reward those who go and above what is expected by putting your money where your mouth is.

I worked at Nuance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some very talented people with great ideas just waiting to be heard

Depending on the group, great managers that empower their teams, champion new ideas, fight to retain good people and recognize the hard work and talent individuals and teams contribute

Awesome technology with endless business growth possibilities in the right hands

    Cons

Lays off high performers and valued employees that get things done and move the business forward - as a result this has created a territorial vs collaborative work environment

Old guard C-level team completely out of sync with today's dynamic business world - need a new executive team with fresh thinking that has worked at a company other than Nuance in the last 10-15 years. Given all the start-up acquisitions the company makes each year - too bad the TONS of great executive talent there has been under utilized.

Zero work/life balance - expected to give up nights, weekends, holidays, vacation time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize when it is time to pass the baton to the new guard for the greater good of the company and its employees. Invest in creating a culture that appreciates employees and offers a pathway for career growth. Embrace new ideas and take calculated risks to evolve the business to be relevant for today's market - and commit to invest what it takes to successfully see this through.
