I have been working at Numark

Pros

Fast-paced, exciting entrepreneurial feel
Agility, ability to pivot rapidly
Every employee has the ability to make an impact
Undergoing rapid growth in all areas of the business
Incredible corps of fully engaged, dedicated, intelligent, hard-working, self-directed employees
Workaholic culture: highly productive
Always in acquisition mode and hiring mode
Substantial investment into operations and IT areas

Cons

No internal communication of policy, direction, strategy, results, and changes
Very limited community feel
Poor morale
Workaholic culture: contributes to stress and burnout
Very limited process, lots of inefficiency
Executive management delegates poorly
Location of headquarters and insistence upon centralization makes attracting and recruiting difficult
Zero new-hire training
Culture of overload: there is no time to manage, develop employees, recruit, or improve the company
Always in fire-drill mode

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire and/or develop senior leaders and managers. This is badly needed.
Better communicate changes, direction, strategy, policy, etc
Invest in improving morale, community and discouragement of workaholic environment
Invest in corporate and personnel development
Decentralize power structure and empower managers to make decisions
Treat employees, customers, vendors with respect

I have been working at Numark

    Pros

    Fun products.
Creative, energetic coworkers, many DJs and musicians.
Alesis & Akai names carry some cachet.
One of the last US-based electronic music instrument manufacturers.
Near Providence and Boston, both great cities.
Each worker in product development gets to make an impact.

    Cons

Poor/difficult working conditions, long hours under the gun.
Managers are very tough to work for and get along with. They are not reasonable, good people.
Managers treat employees poorly, like robots.
Managers are often at odds with themselves and make it the worker's fault.
Too few people trying to do the job of a much bigger company.
Consequently, long hours to stay on top of work.
Products have shaky quality and you will find out why if you work there.
    Lack of product line focus.
None of the above is an exaggeration, and employees only find these facts out the hard way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shed the current nasty, axe-wielding management team. Hire a new, smooth, respectable management team to develop innovative new products and lead the company out of disarray.

I have been working at Numark full-time

    Pros

Opportunity to influence many aspects of the company. You can wear many hats. Personally I've learned a lot from my time here.

    Cons

Severe dearth of leadership and management. Many unqualified people in integral positions. More care should be taken when considering

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in the people that are there. Don't be so quick to discard people who have been with the company several years. Replacing them is extremely costly and no one is counting the cost.
