I have been working at OHSU full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Mostly nice people. Good benefits.

Cons

Greedy executives. You need a Bachelors degree just to answer a phone. More than a few bad apples have spoiled the bunch. Ohsu will literally hire retarded people. This has its own set of pros and cons.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give us the pay we deserve. Were are our bonuses? I've never even heard of a merit based pay in my many years on the hill.

I worked at OHSU full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Surrounded by very bright people.
Everyone seems to share a genuine interest in the care of patients.
    Flexibility within many departments.

    Cons

Very slow to get things done and make changes.
Departments are "silos". While communication has improved, each department operates under its own business model, and without common direction and goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More direction must be made from the top-down with a clear well defined policy and overall goals.
If you spend a lot of money to hire a consulting firm to spend over a year working on a project, and give you advice, it's fine to get department feedback, but don't give the power to the departments to dismiss their advice entirely.
There has to be an organizational restructuring.
Much money is wasted on work that is repeated across departments, and little is done to help those departments that don't draw in very much money. Either help them or drop them.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
