Pros

Competitive pay for Director level and above
Most managers support a good work life balance
Covered parking for all employees

Cons

Upper management uses headcount to meet monthly numbers. Be prepared for continual layoffs, even in good times. Very much a "good old boys" network operating within ON, especially with regards to bringing in former Fairchild employees.

Advice to Management

Quit promoting based upon "the good old boys" network and start promoting the best people into the jobs. Treat employees as your most valuable asset. Quit forcing vacation as a means to meet quarterly financial goals.

    Pros

9 to 5 job, worklife balance.

    Cons

This is an appalling organization to work for at Gresham OR site. They rule by fear and
ignorance. The upper management team is not smart, they base decisions
on people they like, not data or business need. They have a culture
of 'yes men' and 'do as I say, not as I don't'. They absolutely do not
value their human resources. They do business 'by spreadsheet',
missing the bigger picture of gaining value from the employee base.
There was a $7.5K bonus for current employees to refer new hires
(exempt). However, all of the positions remained unfilled - nobody
made referals! What does that tell you?

    Advice to Management

    Value the human resources

    Pros

The design work in the Custom and Foundry Products (former AMIS) is interesting and rewarding. There are always new projects coming down the pipe, so designers get to shift gears regularly and develop circuits for different applications. Project leads and immediate supervisors are very understanding about spending time with family, etc. (i.e. having a life outside of work!)

    Cons

After the AMIS aquisition, it really seems that upper management does not care much at all about the employees. Things are done "for the good of the company," which I suppose ultimately means good for the employee (insofar as it creates job stability), but it's hard to be excited working for a company that pinches pennies so tightly. The ON "entity" doesn't seem to care about the employees.

    Advice to Management

Give the resources to lower-level managers to reward employees, set incentives, and give reasonable raises.

Don't make press releases that may cause the stock to drop in the two-week ESPP interim before employees can sell.

ON has been represented as a "performance-based" company. However, the only bonuses and pay-cuts I've seen have been company-wide. Reward the performers!
