Pros

Well managed. Clear vision. Good growth (acquisitions). Value driver is operational excellence.

Cons

Company runs quite lean... no frills, weak succession planning. Product portfolio is sturdy, but "me too"... not leading edge.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lose site of fundamentals as the company grows.

    I have been working at ON Semiconductor full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Great place to do your 3 first years. Lot of diversity/access in simple products.

    Cons

    No organic growth, no corporate strategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    ON Semiconductor has know a great development since it's creation but now the technologies and markets are evolving. The company needs a vision to keep the pace of the semiconductor industry, a consistent strategy of investment for long term. Everything is short sighted.

    I worked at ON Semiconductor full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    A FEW of the people are smart and engaging, and have the necesssary skill set to work at a Multinational Company. Free Parking for employees.

    Cons

    Management is totally top down, no employee development: Management's view is stay where you are and be glad you have a job, VERY bureaucratic, lots of backstabbing and taking credit for other's work. Promotions based on old boy network.
    No credible Senior Management in the Tax department. In an effort to save money they do not have a VP of Tax, instead they have an "average" accountant with no tax experience as the "Director of Tax". At most companies he would be nothing more than a, glorified, Sr. Analyst, if that. Oddly, he seems more concerned about whether his employees take out their garbage each day( ON does not employ a janitorial staff, in an effort to save money) than about the quarterly tax rate. The way Senior Management and ON's outside consultants step all over him,he's basically a doormat at the company.
    In addition, the individual responsible for International Tax at ON is a total goofball. I never heard anything, from him that led me to believe he even had the faintest idea of what he was talking about when it came to International Tax, or Tax, in general.
    This is how seriously the tax department at ON is run- at one point, the "Director of Tax", who is Mormon, thought it was appropriate to have an employee pass out the Book of Mormon to everyone in the department for after-work reading. Yes- That actually happened.
    Turnover is outrageous. The only way to truly survive this company and its Byzantine politics is to be a yes-man.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If you like getting things done, being surrounded by talented counterparts, and fast paced environments, this is definitely NOT the place for you. Mgmt should consider changing that. Don't infantilize your employees with silly cost cutting measures. If you, consistently, need your employees to take forced time off and take out their own garbage, to meet your quarterly guidance, then you may want to re-think your business model.
    Care about turnover -- there's a real problem when most of your staff leaves after a year.
    HR needs to realize that there's no advancement potential at ON, Upper Management positively cackles with delight when they get a chance to screw over an employee.
    If an employee has worked in a department for 10 years and not one person from their department can tell you what their responsibilities are- Let them go.
    Don't consider people to be "highly educated" if they only have an online degreee from University of Phoenix or some similar "fly by night" online university.
