I have been working at OSHA

    Pros

Salary in major markets like NY City area or Chicago is good. Flextime and telework is available and now encouraged....within limits. Accumulating vacation and sick leave is very good. With the enforcement power of the gov, well let's say you often have a company's full attention when you audit or inspect them which can be satisfying if you get them to treat their employees better.

    Cons

Many management gigs are set in advance and most importantly, if you get stuck with a non forward looking manager, or someone who you don't jive with, well let's say they can impact almost every aspect of your work here from evaluations to yes, dollar bonuses at the end of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take input from your employees or especially line staff seriously as after all, many companies seek out their advice on how to improve their own operations.

I have been working at OSHA

    Pros

Permanent employee after 6 months. Some training available or enough training depending on how you view it. Good variety of work. Quite a bit of travel if you like to travel.

    Cons

Out of date software, managers showing blatant favoritism, manager not managing staff, manager quick to blame and not listen, unhappy staff, difficult to get needed supplies, tense office, procedure and policy is not up-to-date, some people get the time off when they want it and others don't, lots of calling in "sick" on Mondays and Fridays, manager difficult to reach when out of the office, low pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't play favorites among the staff, be available when you are out of the office or appoint someone to be in charge and give them the power to make decisions. Don't have meetings just for the sake of meeting.
