Pros

Great company for progression. They reward employees generously.

Cons

I worked long hours and was extremely tired.

    I have been working at Occidental Petroleum

    Pros

    The compensation is good and for office worker there is career advancement. The employee benefits are good with cell phone discounts on monthly bills.

    Cons

    The down side is for people working in the field the career opportunities are few. The hazardous materials you work with could lead to cancer.

    I worked at Occidental Petroleum

    Pros

    Occidentals benefits package - minus pay rate - is one of the best available. Flexible, cost effective choices and extensive support. There are some very talented people who are excellent to work with and are approachable, especially within mid level managment. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

    Pay is well below other oil and gas operators. Training and development gets very little attention or support, especially from those who should be actively invovled with their employees. Project engineers have very little contol over their work, but are required to take all the responsibilty for any short comings. Politics - HR and management are not above playing favorites and taking advantage of work place hostility to drive certain people out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Recognize performance and ensure that nobody stays in one position too long. This puts up barriers to those below them. Acknowledge that everyone should be equal and hostile environments are not acceptable.
