I have been working at Occidental Petroleum

    Pros

Very fast paced. Successful because of a "do more with less" philosophy. The culture cares very much about image rather than substance, so this may be a good fit for some.

    Cons

Lack of training and appreciation for newer employees. Seniority and experience is given a large leeway, whereas newer techs and contractors are marginalized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please give the impression that you are willing to spend money and time to develop your newer employees. This should not be difficult.

I have been working at Occidental Petroleum

    Pros

Cash flow focus in a mature industry. Willing to take financial risks to achieve objectives. Has opportunity for early-career professionals due to demographics.

    Cons

Weak technically. Little interest or priority given to distributing knowledge. Does not walk the talk with regards to building competency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage people, not just look up to see what your boss wants. Think beyond your own personal goals to build a company that can sustain and grow capability.
